Hampton High School opened in September 1992 to alleviate the overcrowding at Kennebecasis Valley High School where Hampton’s high school students were attending. The Hampton Community Theatre was added after a major fundraising campaign by the community.
During the first four years when Hampton High housed grades 10, 11 and 12 enrollment ranged from 608-613 students. In August 1996 grade 9 students from Hampton Junior High School moved into Hampton High to begin the first year of the Foundation Program and enrolment jumped to 784. In August 1997 grade 9 students from Macdonald Consolidated School moved into Hampton High and enrolment rose to 836 students. It was at this time four additional classrooms were added to the existing structure. The student population during the 2006-2007 school year was 776.

Currently there are a total of 45 full time equivalent (FTE’s) teachers on staff. There are 3 FTE’s allocated to Student Services, 1.4 FTE’s to Guidance and 2.8 FTE’s to Administration.

Hampton High’s 10 teaching assistants work closely with classroom teachers and resource teachers to provide assistance to those students identified as having special needs.

The front office is staffed with two secretaries representing 1.8 positions and there are 7 custodial positions to maintain cleanliness within the school.

In addition Hampton High School has a cafeteria with three staff which provides full service from 8:10-8:25am, 10:45-11am and 12noon-12:55pm.

A day at Hampton High begins at 8:30am and finishes at 3:30pm. There are five periods, each sixty minutes in length and a twenty-five minute school wide sustained reading period.

Some students are within walking distance however most are bussed from the surrounding areas of the Kingston Peninsula, Bloomfield, Passakeag, Lakeside, Smithtown, Titusville, Barnesville, Upham, Darlings Island, Nauwigewauk and French Village.

Students at HHS are regularly asked how they feel about the quality of their school life. The surveys used to ask students whether they agree or disagree with a series of statements that all begin with : School is a place where… The table to the left shows the percentage of students at all NB schools who agreed with each of the statements, it also shows Hampton High compared with the Province.
